Bath time.

Ruby has officially graduated into the big bath for tubby time!  While she still loves her little infant bath in the sink, she absolutely drenches everything around with kicking her little legs.  Ruby has always loved bath time, from day one, and her new baths appear to be just as amusing.

Checking things out.  (notice the redish tint in the hair?  ah!!)

This is pretty great, Mama.

Before I knew it, big sister was in with you (she couldn't help herself).   She adores you so much, baby girl.

You are her real life baby doll.

Nice hair!..check out the drool line..cute as can be eyelashes.

And then boom; there's brother too!  He couldn't believe you were in the big bath!  There were lots of giggles.
I'm loving all these "firsts" with you, Ruby.  Even for the fourth time, these moments never get old.

Centergrove Orchard Photos

I have got to get these pictures up!  They are so stinkin' cute, and such a special day that I surely want "in the books."

Our 2013 trip to Centergrove Orchard for Nana's birthday...

The whole clan.
Pedal tractors.

Duck races.

Ruby just hangin' out.

Jumping into the corn pool!

The jumping pillow.

Lunch break.  That's quite the crew, eh!

A favorite of the day.

Another favorite of the day.

Madeline was so gracious to take Charlie up and down, up and down.  Because, let me be honest here: I got to the top and chickened out and came down.  Yes, yes I did.

By the end of the day, he had it all figured out himself!

Maleah & Lydia.

With all those ladies, the boys got to stick together.

Think there's much love?

He's a popular guy, that Papa.  (this picture cracks me up.  zero personal space for him!!)

Out for a hayride.

Beautiful day with blue skies.

Past the pumpkins...

and the apples.

Finishing the day on the porch with yummy apple cider doughnuts!
What a spectacular fall day together!

Buckeyes.

These gorgeous, warm fall days, have made for some great buckeye picking!

I'm so sorry.  I had to.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:  I heart fall.

Applesauce!

The problem with gardens, trees, and bushes: when they produce, they produce!  And after all the major production, I am burnt out.

Last week I asked my friend if she wanted any tomatoes.  She came back with do you want any apples?  Tomatoes and apples galore!  I first said, "No...I am very over dealing with produce."  Then I gave myself a little shake and remembered all the precious years of my mom and grandma making homemade applesauce.  I'm not great at crafts, we don't sit around the table hours of the day doing workbooks, my house is not immaculate, but by golly, we can do applesauce!

We went that evening on a little picking adventure.  Treking through a bean field with five kids, a carseat, buckets, and an apple picker; I said it was an adventure!  Those kids picked and picked with pure delight.

Once we got home, we threw them all into the big ol' bath.

Next, cut each apple into four.  No peeling, no nothing.  Easy as that!

Throw them into a big pot of water.

Let them boil for a bit.

Check on the cute baby laying in the window seat.

Move over to the nifty machine, and run them through.  The "waste" comes out one end while the applesauce flows into the pan.

Cool the applesauce before pouring them into containers or bags.  We did not have to add even a teaspoon of sugar.  It was absolutely delicious!

We were at the library Friday, and the girls, without being asked, started talking and talking and talking to the librarian about our day making applesauce.  "It was the best day ever, and we all got to help!"  The kind gal behind the desk reminded me that though it wasn't easy with four kids under foot, applesauce in the store is cheap, and it was a lot of work for not a ton of applesauce, the memories were more than worth while.  She said, "One day they will leave, and these are the things they will remember."  After a friendly encouragement to keep it up, even when it seems overlooked or a silly waste of time, I felt refreshed.  All in the name of applesauce.  :)

Harvest 2013

Combines are rolling around here.  Dust is in the air (and all over my furniture), the dryer sounds hums me to sleep at night, I'm drowning in Hawaiian buns for yummy lunches, Charlie cries every night for Daddy, the air is crisp, the smells are glorious, and God is showering His blessings once again.  It's harvest time.

Last year at this time, we were finished.  Yep.  This year, at this time, we are four short, putz around days, and one long, official, day in.  Funny how each season and year is entirely different.

They took off with the combine to work out kinks and try some beans on October 2nd.  Things are going well, and they are now rolling right around.

Ready to roll!

Off they go!  Safe riddins, boys.

Beautiful day!

Cute passenger.

I adore this picture.  See the littlest man on the left?

Quite the crew out for a one round jammie ride.

Beautiful.

I have to say I have come a long ways in our five years of farming.  While I used to tolerate the ever so long days, running around at a moment's notice, slaving over a meal only to have them gobble it up on the go with very little recognition, feeling lonely and isolated at times, and dealing with the crying of the kids by myself, I have come to truly find joy in this beautiful season.

I love the buzz in the air.  I love running the guys around.  I love that my kids get to see what their daddy does for work.  I love that while Daddy might not be home, I am.  I love feeding their bellies with warm food so they can better do their work into the night.  I love the action around the farm, the vehicles coming in and out, and the sound of the auger turning off and on.  I love the memories it triggers of my years here as a little girl with my big sisters.  I love having my nephews and nieces out to be a part of the family operation; we desire for them to be very included.  All of it; it is an absolute pleasure.

Hard, long days?  You bet.  Blessings abounding?  Absolutely.
